MSDN Servers as lab in a production environment? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I've read the MSDN Subscription license (http://bit.ly/2fjBYiV) and several other forum articles here, and now I'm abit puzzled.

    I have the following scenario:

A large domain that is used for production where all servers are properly licensed. But we are in period where we need alot more test server for infrastructure testing and other IT pro admin tasks to verify configuration etc.

Could we used MSDN licences for this? No end user would use these environment only IT staff to test and do lab work. Nor would any of the services or servers be used to offer services for any end user in any way.

Or do we need to fully license each server&service for this usage? Keep in mind that I'd like to keep it in the same domain as the production domain to simplify logon and other domain related offerings.

  • I just also read this:

    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/bb3a8fbf-ebca-4e7a-bb80-3366e485df47/msdn-and-production-environment-again?forum=msdnfeedback

All our lab environments would run on seperate physical hardware. Only connection to prod is that the our new hypervisor and client vms would be members of the domain.
