Problems componentising VMWare Player for running on XP Embedded RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to componentise VMWare Player for use on a Windows XP Embedded Standard host OS.

This is so that the Virtual PC can be used as a sandbox area for users to install their programs/surf web etc without effecting the host computer

I have succesfully used ThinApp to create a portable VMPlayer but this will only run in XP Pro, not Embedded

Does anyone know what extra resources/components are required for this to function in XPe so I can add them to Target Designer

Has anyone done this before? And been successful?

If you need any more detailed info, let me know and I'll send the files

    Thank you for your help

  • Hi Sean,

Thank you for replying. VMWare installs correctly post-FBA, which I'm very happy about! I just had to add the Windows Installer Component

I would prefer to have it as a component file as this wouldn't require any user interaction but at least I have a known working configuration.

Unfortunately XPeFiles.com didn't have a solution for componentising this piece of software.

I am using VMPlayer 2.5 currently but have issues making it boot into full screen. I will check the VMWare forums for a solution to this.

    Cheers

  • This might be a situation where it is best to just install VMWare post-FBA. Does xpefiles.com have a solution? What VMware client are you using?
