Getting RIA to play well with EF 5 RRS feed

  • Question

  • This may no longer be true, but it still seems to me that to get RIA to play well with EF 5, I have to reference the older Microsoft.ServiceModel.DomainService.EntityFramework (which has DbDomainService  and shipped with RIA Service Toolkit).

It appears that the  newer DLL shipping with EF 5 System.ServiceModel.DomainService.EntityFramework.dll (which exposes DomainService instead of DbDomainService), does not play well with RIA (in particular it doesn’t seem to properly create the navigation properties on the client side proxy classes, even when the associations are made explicit via attributes) (see article http://mcasamento.blogspot.it/2012/10/entity-framework-5-code-first-and-wcf.html)

Is the above true and is this workaround still the best way to do things ?

  • The current version of the DbDomainService which does support EF 5 is available from NuGet. It is named RiaServices.EntityFramework.
