New .net 4.0 install keeps adding random folders to my c-drive every 2 hours RRS feed

  • Question

  • As part of another software package (MicroFocus SilkPerformer test tool), I had to install .NET 4.0 on my Windows XP machine. Ever since I did this two days ago, new folders keep getting installed every two hours on my C-drive. They have names like 'b5e01042e190913bf13105d03f14' and '90c3d89cc45e84a24b'. They all have the same contents - 10 folders wtih the EULA in different languages (1028,1031, etc), a Graphics folder, and 16 files (total 62 files, 11 folders). One file labeled 'watermark.bmp' shows an image of Microsoft Visual Studio. The eula is for MICROSOFT VISUAL C++ 2010 RUNTIME LIBRARIES.

How can I stop this from creating new folders every 2 hours? When I'm logged on, there is no indication anythign is running. Even while I was logged off overnight, new folders were created.

  • Are these folders in the root of your C:\ drive?

I have just checked four different computers here (including one with XP SP3), all of which have .NET Framework 4.0 installed. I can find no such folders on any of the four PC's.

None of the PC's have any Microfocus products installed.

I suggest you ask here: http://community.microfocus.com/Home

  • Yes, all in the root c:/. Maybe you are right an it is the MicroFocus software doing it. But everything in the newly created folders points to Microsoft /.net / Visual Studio / Visual c++, so though I'd ask here. I'll try some other stuff - reboot, uninstall MicroFocus, etc., if nobody has seen this type of thing before.

  • Hi snowmanjack,

Any update? Has this issue been resolved?

If this issue is related with the Microfocus products, like pvdg42 said, I would suggest you contact Microfocus support for help.

If you have any concerns, please feel free to let me know.
