Why Is Microsoft Developing Apps That Only Run On Android Phones and IPhones?

    Question

  • It appears Microsoft believes that developing for the Windows Store is not a good business idea. I just got an email from email@microsoft.microsoft.com announcing the MileIQ app. Unfortunately, it is only available from the Apple app store and Google Play.

So not only is Microsoft porting it's PC products to Apple it is now developing products that don't run on Microsoft's systems but only on Apple and Android.

Is Microsoft trying to tell us something about the future (or lack thereof) of the Windows Phone future?

  • That app is not made by Microsoft. Microsoft acquired the company that made MileIQ late last year.

  • Then why didn't they port it to Windows Phone 8.1 or 10?

The promo was sent to my Microsoft Live email address I use for Windows Phone 8 & 8.1.  Now why would Microsoft sent a promo for apps that are only available on Android and iPhone to their Windows Phone 8.1 users?  Is it a gentle hint it is time to move on?
