Commit/ rollback transaction from different sessions RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

is it possible to start a transaction in one user session and commit it/ rollback it in another - if yes how to achieve it? Let's say for some reason someone's transaction is still running and as dba I want to rollback it from my session due to too much resources consumed.

    Thanks in advance

  • As a DBA the only option you have available to you is to Kill the particular SPID using the Kill command. However this does not mean an instant rollback. The rollback process will be dependant on the activity the transaction was performing and how large a rollback is required. This could infact take quite a long time to complete. You want to understand the process that you are wanting to kill.

    I hope this helps.
