Index Fields RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.  I'm having an issue with a document that I'm working on. It's rather large and has a lot of Index fields for a definitions index.  However, when I run the macro to change straight quotes to curly quotes, the ending quotation marks after the index fields all flip backwards.  When printed, the field code doesn't show, so it only has that backwards quotation mark after the bolded term.  Is there a way to fix this without going through the entire document and changing them back individually?

  • You could try a wildcard Find/Replace, where:
    Find = “([!A-Za-z]) or
    Replace= ”\1
    or:
    Find = ^0147([!A-Za-z])
    Replace= ^0148\1
    Basically, each of these tells Word to replace any opening quote (i.e. “) that does not precede a letter with a closing quote (i.e. ”)
