copy from one blob to another

  • hi ,

we have two blob in diff region South Asia (source) & East US (Dest),

source contains 2.25TB of data... while I copy using Start-CopyAzureStorageBlob in powershell (running from VM @south india)  .. it take more time & minimal data transferred ...

which method possible to accomplished with consistent speed.  ( for using azcopy /SyncCopy  is possible?  but I do't have south asia VM to run Azcopy)

  • Hi,

you can use AzCopy (indeed with /SyncCopy parameter defined) for this. However, you will need to create a VM in South Asia to prevent additional cost related to egress traffic. You can do a cost comparison to check what would be cheaper; create a VM just for the copy (eg. a "small" VM running Win2016 nano or something), or use AzCopy locally and calculate the data egress cost.

If you don't want to create a VM, you're stuck using AzCopy in async mode, or use start/stop-copyazurestorageblob.

  • Azcopy already running with async.. for the past 23hrs it's accomplished 360GB /2.25TB.. it's good, compare to Start-CopyAzureStorageBlob.
