Hyper-V PowerShell Cmdlets unavailable in Windows Hyper-V Server 2012 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to create a VM in Windows Hyper-V Server 2012 (i.e. not Windows Server 2012 with the Hyper-V role). I've installed the basic OS/hypervisor. Using SCConfig I then installed all recommended updates and enabled PowerShell. I'm running PowerShell locally on the host, i.e. no remote management. So a very basic and plain setup.

My problem is, it seems the Hyper-V cmdlets are not available in PowerShell. If I e.g. call New-Vm it returns an error that the cmdlet is not recognized. Beware that I'm a PowerShell newbie, but it was my understanding that the Hyper-V role and associated PowerShell cmdlets would be automatically available in Windows Hyper-V Server?
