Data merge errors MSP 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • HI wondering if anyone else has had this issue. We recently went from 2003 to 2007 and some import issues started to develop.
We create an Excel spreadsheet and import the data to MSP using a map with a Primary key to merge the data.

When the project file is open we can import as many times as we want and the data is updated with any changes as per the mapped fields and the Primary key to merge it. BUT... after we close the Project file off and open it again, if we attempt an import using the same map and the same spreadsheet we run into corruption problems. Basically we lose the top one or two rows and all the other data moves up overwriting WBS rows miss aligning all the data.

This did not happen in version 2003 but seems to happen in version 2007 at several different sites i have tried it on. and as I said it only happens if i close the file and reopen it.

Some feedback on this would be great

    Thanks

    John

  • Further testing showed that if we save the 07 file as an 03 version then we do not get the corruption when importing merge data.

While this keeps us out of trouble I am keen to see some thoughts on why 07 has data merge issues

    regards

  • Hi,

Do you have Service Pack 2 installed? (See Help, About Project).
If not, stop using it then download SP2 from microsoft.com immediately, install and re-test.

Without the Service Packs, Project 2007 is very buggy.

  • Hi Rod Yes to SP2 is installed.

Seems to be an issue on several OS I have tried it on. Both manually and with code.

It would seem that this may have slipped through to the keeper as far as Microsoft is concerned.

Not sure where to go from here?
