Monitoring large areas with Kinect RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'd like to use Kinect To Monitor the area around my car. I want to see if people are within a 30 foot parimeter. Everything I've read seems to imply a much shorter range than that. Can this be done?

  • Hi V-Man,

The Kinect device is capped at around 8 meters ~ 26 feet. For body tracking it is reliable only up to around 4.5 meters ~13 feet. To do something like what you're referring first would be capped at around 26 feet, and you would have write your own logic to determine blob detection/motion detection/people around this distance.

So in otherwords, yes this can somewhat be done just be prepared to write some logic.
