A Prerelease version of Visual Studio Community is currenlty installed RRS feed

  • Question

  • Running on Win10, I used to have VS Comunity prerelease insatalled but I uninstalled it, I've also gone through and uninstalled all the components that were installed on the same day (somehow I failed to do a complete uninstall).

From the install.log it looks like this check prevents me from installing:

    [2A58:2AA4][2015-10-18T13:51:02]i052: Condition 'CurrentOperation = "Install" AND (CommunityCore_Version14 > v0.0.0.0) AND (CommunityCore_Version14 < v14.0.23104.0) AND NOT(CommunityCore_Version14 = v14.0.23107.0) AND (ProfessionalCore_Version14 = v0.0.0.0) AND (UltimateCore_Version14 = v0.0.0.0)' evaluates to true.

The last rows from the install.log reads:

    [2A58:2AA4][2015-10-18T13:51:02]i052: Condition '(VersionNT = v6.3) AND (WindowsBuildNumber < 9600)' evaluates to false.

  • Hi JoDan,

For the error message you pasted, some files are already missing and it’s hard to repair.

In this situation, I suggest you would rather format your machine than try to do the troubleshooting, then re-install VS community RTM version, I think a clear environment will be more helpful. Formatting OS will also save your much time.

Before doing so, please backup your important files and applications.

    Best Regards,

  • I noticed this one in the loag:

[2A58:2AA4][2015-10-18T13:51:00]i103: Detected related package: {012F32A4-0F5B-3571-BF32-7B50ADA23FC1}, scope: PerMachine, version: 14.0.22823.0, language: 1033 operation: MajorUpgrade

So I went ahead and searched the registry for that key and then deleted all mentions of that in the registry, and also removed ALL packages in the C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\ that had anything with "communitycore" and "*v14* to do.

Now the installed kicked in! Wondering if it will work...

  • Hi JoDan,

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

How about sharing your result after deleting the registry key and packages?

    Does it work ?

For this issue, I would suggest you take a backup of the series packages and registry key before deleting.

Because if it doesn’t work after doing the remove if the files, you could restore them in case of the VS environment crashed.

    Best Regards,

    Wen Xu

  • Hi, well it worked in a way... The install went fine and I can boot up VS2015 and successfully write and compile "old" .net 4.x projects. But there's something very wrong with the DNX projects. I can create a "Console Application (Package)" project, but I get all kinds of compiler errors at once:

Looks like all the fun bits are missing... and I guess my idea of trying to clean out things in the registry wasn't 100% successful :/

Ideas? Or is it time for me to do a clean sweap of the machine?
