Silverlight v5 Installation problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi wonder if anyone can help

Windows XP, IE8 (also tried with IE7) User had Silverlight version 3 installed. Went to micorsoft getsilverlight website.
This showed that he had V3 installed and that V5 was the current version

Downloaded the new version and installed V5 listed - installed ok, listed in Add remove programs
Returned back to the site above to test the new install now gets a prompted to install Silverlight
If you click the button to install you get notified that same version is already installed.

Silverlight is enabled in add-ins - Publisher shown as "Control name is not available"
Where as on other working pc its listed as microsoft.

I’ve tried a couple of fixes from Microsoft kb-  corrupt Silverlight installation I’ve tried removing Silverlight
resetting IE to defaults, restarting and reinstalling
I’ve tried a couple of fixes found in forums – 1 checking for old reg keys – don’t exist & adding permissions to a couple of registry keys.

None of this resolved the problem.
    Any help really appriciated.
