Design Question HTML5 and Server Controls RRS feed

I am using VS 2010 Pro SP1 and developing a .net 4.0 web application. I recently took a course on responsive design and mobile first strategy. I am confused on how to merge the worlds of HTML5, CSS3, Server Controls and Master Pages.

I really want to use the HTML5 controls on my web forms, but wondering if I can convert my existing asp.net server controls to use the HTML5 versions. For example, if I’m using the standard data grid view and drop downs, how would use the HTML5 equivalents or do I need to?  If I switch to the HTML5 controls, will I use all the cool data binding I have in the server control?

I recently setup my text editor in Visual Studio to default to HTML5. Just tested one of the range controls and it looks great. I would like to use it instead of the slider that comes with AJAX toolkit.

    Suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks
