Hardware ID generation for USB HUB connected under xHCI controllers RRS feed

  • Question

  • USB HUBs connected under EHCI is having both hardware ID format given below:

    1.) USB\VID_v(4)&PID_d(4)&REV_r(4)

    2.) USB\VID_v(4)&PID_d(4)

But when the same HUB is connected to xHCI, hardware ID of format specified in 1 alone generated. This poses restriction on having a more generic INF file for device driver installation.

a.) Is it possible to over come this using INF file with wild cards after ...REV_**** ?

b.) OR Is it possible to force the USB3 drivers to generate hardware ID for the second format also ?

  • It does like an issue in the Windows USB Core stack that manages XHCI. We will look at fixing it in future but I can't think of any workarounds for now. Sorry.
