encoding problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • hi,

    in my application i connect to a remote mysql server.

    in order to show the data in the db i use DataGridView but since the collection of my data base is not set to hebrew (even though the data in it is in hebrew, don't ask why because i don't know the answer, it's just the way they work around here) i get weird looking strings instead of hebrew.

    up until now i used a java app to access this data and in java i can actually ask for the right encoding in the connection string, like so:

    String url = "jdbc:mysql://SERVER_URL/DATABASE_NAME?characterEncoding=ISO8859_8";

    is there something similar that i can use in .net ?  if not how do i solve this problem?

    thanks a lot, nitzan.

  • I do not think it is related to .NET at all. You need to specify encoding for your data in a connection string when you connect to the MySql server database. If MySql supports such property, then it supposes to work same as in Java. .NET classes do not need to do anything additional.
