How to restore database changes to last day using log file? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have recently attached an old SQL Server 2005 database to SQL Server 2008 R2, but it is still running under 2005 compatibility model. We don't have any backup but only the two files: .mdf and .ldf.

Is there any way to restore database changes using the log file? I want to restore it to the last day end position. It is not a mission-critical production database but a test database.

  • Hello,

It is not possible wiht SQL Server to go to a point in time without running in either full recovery model or bulk logged with no minimally logged operations in the point in time chosen. You'll also need the assocated log backups in order to achieve point in time recovery. Since you only have the data and log files, this is not possible.
