Inadvertently installed Windows Internet Server 2008 on a Windows 7 machine, preserving o/s, apps and data. How do I go back to Windows 7? RRS feed

  • I intended to instal a 2008 server on a virtual machine for testing purposes, however during the process I inadvertently installed 2008 Windows Internet Server on the native system.

The existing Windows server environment and all my data are preserved on the notebook, but I want to boot from Windows 7, not 2008 server.  The o/s won't allow me to boot from the alternate Windows.  I don't think reformatting is the answer.

I'm even prepared to remove the disk and plug it into another PC via an external USB unit, if simply renaming Windows.old to Windows will work.  But if I reinstall Windows 7 its back to square 1 with all the apps.  There must be a way out.
