404 on when a full domain is used.

    Question

  • We have an intranet sharepoint(2010) site that works flawlessly. Internally we have it set up using a short domain name, http://vsdsp1/.  But works fine with a full domain on all but the managed patch sites. This was upgraded about 6 years ago to 2010 from 2003.

    http://vsdsp1.company.com/sites/smcdocs/ - throws a 404 error.

    http://vsdsp1/sites/smcdocs -  works fine.

now if I create a new site

    http://vsdsp1.company.com/testsite/  - work fine

    http://vsdsp1/testsite/  - work fine

  • Hi kmac303,

Since the site collection with FQDN URL gets this error but not in subsite, please check whether all the site collection has these issue.

And since these sites are upgraded from SharePoint 2003, try to create a new site collection to check if the issue exists.

    Best regards,

    Grace Wang
