  • Hi Dayton,

    After checking the installation logs, I found error messages below:
    In WindowsUpdate.log file:
    2011-08-21 21:50:36:821 7424 24ac COMAPI IUpdateService removing volatile scan package service, serviceID = {BE5C8F3D-7131-43F6-A4FF-0A9E816A81E7}
    2011-08-21 21:50:36:823  324 1fa8 Agent WARNING: WU client fails CClientCallRecorder::RemoveService with error 0x80248014
    2011-08-21 21:50:36:823 7424 24ac COMAPI WARNING: ISusInternal::RemoveService failed, hr=80248014

    In cbs.log file:
    2011-08-21 21:50:36, Info                  CBS    SQM: Failed to start upload with file pattern: C:\Windows\servicing\sqm\*_std.sqm, flags: 0x2 [HRESULT = 0x80004005 - E_FAIL]
    2011-08-21 21:50:36, Info                  CBS    SQM: Failed to start standard sample upload. [HRESULT = 0x80004005 - E_FAIL]
    2011-08-21 21:50:36, Info                  CBS    SQM: Queued 0 file(s) for upload with pattern: C:\Windows\servicing\sqm\*_all.sqm, flags: 0x6

    For the error "0x80248014", it means "An operation did not complete because the service is not in the data store." It appears yoru Windows Update service is currupted, and it casued the .NET Framework failed to install. So we'll need to perform some methods to fix the Windows Update issue first:

    If the problem still could not resolve, I would like to suggest you open a new post in the Windows 7 Update forum to consult Windows experts to for the Windows Update issue.

    Best Regards,

      Go to Start menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt right-click the program -> Run as administrator;
    2. Type the command below, then press Enter:
      >sfc /scannow
      Check the result of this command, does it find any errors? Can it reports error be fixed?
    3. Type the command below, then press Enter:

  • Hi Dayton,

    Any update?

    There are several things I would like to clarify with you:

    • What is your OS version?
    • Did you want to install .NET Framework? Which version did you want to install?
    • What is the error message/error code you received?

    Below are some common tips that could help install .NET Framework successfully. You can follow these tips to install again, if the installation still could not succeed, please collect the installation logs for further analyze.

    • Turn off your anti-virus/antispyware software during installation;
    • Install the latest Windows updates from the Windows Update site: http://update.microsoft.com;
    • Complete or dismiss Windows Update before installation. (And don't forget to turn it on later);
    • Clean your %temp% folder (Start Menu >> Run >> Type "%temp% >> OK);
    • Run the .NET Framework setup with Administrator privilege: right-click the installer -> Run as administrator.

    If the installation still failed, please collect the installation log files from "%temp%" folder with the Log Collection Tool. Upload the vslogs.cab file to some public site, and paste the URL link here, so that we can access to the file and help check installation logs.

    If you have any concerns, please feel free to let me know.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Dayton,

    Thanks for posting back.

    Would you please help to collect the installation logs and send it to me? (E-mail: v-anwu_at_microsoft_dot_com). Note: Please attach the link of this post in the mail.

    According to the installation log, it seems the installer failed to install the Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x64.msu, You can also try download and install it alone: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=7942

    Waiting for your mail.

  • Hi Dayton,

    I'm sorry to hear about this issue is still remains and casued so much trouble.

    Actually, I have received you email without the installation log I mentioned in my post. Would you please help to use the Log Collection Tool to collect the installation logs, and send it to me for further analyze? (Email: v-anwu@microsoft.com).
    (After run the log collection tool, you can find a vslogs.cab file in your %temp% folder.)

    Additionally, have you tried install the Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x64.msu alone? Did this work?

    I'm waiting for your email.

    Sincerely,

  • Hi Dayton,

    Thanks for sending me the email. However, I still could not find the complete installation logs file vslogs.cab in the email. In order to help provide more specific suggestion to help resolve this problem, I need to check the full installation log and find the root cause of your problem. Would you please help to collect the installation logs and send it to me?

    Additionally, according the screenshot in your email, it appears the setup failed to install Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x64.msu with error code 0x240006. In this case, you may:

    1. Open Start menu >> Control Panel >> Programs and features >> View installed updates, check if the update KB958488 already exists in the list. If so, please remove them first.
    2. Temporary turn off your anti-virus/antispyware software;
    3. Clean the %temp% folder (Start Menu >> Run >> Type "%temp% >> OK);
    4. Manually download and install the update from the link below:
      http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=7942
    5. Install .NET Framework 4.0 with Aministrator privilege(right-click the installer -> Run as administrator

    I have found a similar issue in the forum: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/netfxsetup/thread/cdbeb67c-4c0b-45ca-957f-af526f27fc36

    Thanks for your understanding.
