  • Question

  • Hi there,

One of our vendors has an application that uses the dsoframer.ocx v1.3.3 and now that we are moving to Office2016, the dsoframer.ocx isn't supported.  This has stalled our office2016 deployment to this particular user group of 1000 people.  Before we go ahead with investing in a workaround to virtualize this application to contain it to the previous version of Office (2010), we are hoping to atleast have Microsoft confirm this, but haven't found any related articles on the retirement of this ocx.

Please, could someone advise/comment on this regarding the dsoFramer.ocx (has this been abandoned/retired and if so is there any official statement/link).

    Thank you,
    Pierson

  • Hello Pierson,

According to my search result, Microsoft didn't release related articles to declare why it isn't supported and the KB and download page are missing. The support for dsoFramer.ocx has been ended several years ago, please visit the same question asked 7 years ago: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1439168/ms-kb311765-and-dsoframer-are-missing-from-ms-site

I think you might use similar controls or create your own ActiveX control to work with all Office version.

  • Hi Celeste, thanks for the post,

Not that it matters, but I was able to locate the original Microsoft KB311765 (Aug18,2007) download page for the dsoframer.ocx found here (using the internet archives).  KB311765 is no longer publically found on Microsoft and while some KB’s links are still accessible on Microsoft’s site, this one appears to have been removed.  However, for some reason, Microsoft still has the download link available here for the version1.3, apparently it was only released as a sample.

I have opened a case with Microsoft for an official answer, so we can proceed accordingly from a business point of view.

Thanks for confirming from community side.
