Tabular Model Scripting Language (TMSL) / Deployment with Deployment Wizard RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I'm currently trying to Deploy a SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular Model to a SQL Server 2016 CTP 3.3 instance using the Analysis Services Deployment Wizard.

As you can see in the screenshot, there's a problem reading the *.asdatabase file:

"Error loading %folder%\Model.asdatabase: Data at the root Level is invalid. Line 1, position 1."

Okay, got it, you're expecting XML...But the *.asdatabase file contains the new Tabular Model Scripting Language (TMSL) in JSON. So there my questions:

    • Will the RTM Version of the Wizard be able to...
... read the JSON-serialized *.asdatabase file?
          ... produce a JSON-serialized *.xmla file?
    • Will there be a replacement for the Deployment Wizard since the tool is very poor to use from the command line (Visual Studio is not an Option here)?

    Thanks in advance

    Manuel

Answers

  • Current plan: There is going to be an updated Deployment Wizard that supports JSON and 2016 tabular 1200 models released with the July update to SSMS.

  • Hi Manuel,

We are working on the Deployment Wizard, but not yet completed it for SQL 2016. The current version you have will not work with JSON files.

Our target is to have something ready by RTM, but have not guaranteed yet.

I hope you are finding the new Tabular model valuable. We are always looking for feedback. If you have anything else you want to let us know, feel free to send to bradsyremoveme@microsoft.com
