Will Microsoft Store only provide Metro Apps?

    Question

  • I know I'm early asking this, and I'll probably get shot down but I'm gonna ask anyways.

Is the current vision for the Microsoft Store in Windows 8 to provide both Metro apps and "classic" WinForm apps or will it be limited to Metro app sales only?

Also, is it generally expected that the Microsoft Store will have a similar submission process to that of Windows Phone 7 for metro apps?, that is, you upload the app, apply description, pricing and configuration data, Microsoft has a certification process to follow, followed by a deployment to the Microsoft Store.

  • The Store will only host Metro apps, although their will be a way to list desktop applications and link to other online stores from which they can be purchased (subject possibly to some as yet undocumented criteria). Metro apps need to pass the certification tests to be listed, the tools for which will be available so that you can know in advance that your app should pass.
