Virtual storport miniport crash dump and hibernate support RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have developed a virtual storport miniport driver to aggregate physical storage devices.  We can boot from the virtual device, but we are not able to clearly identify how to get crash dump and hibernate support working from the current Microsoft documentation. Can you please point us in the right direction, thanks.

  • Hi,

Please refer to and related virtual miniport topic about crashdump support.

Also, it may help to provide some details about the issue or break you encountered.

  • thanks for getting back. We had already seen this link.

However we are concerned with how virtual miniport is able to make calls to another miniport handling the real hardware via IoCallDriver in dump/hiberbate mode. If our virtual miniport driver is represented as the boot drive, the underlying physical layer driver may not be (re) loaded in dump/hiber mode. I guess we are looking for a way to ensure that our bootable virtual miniport can associated with the underlying miniport drivers in such a way they are also loaded and re-initialized in dump/hiber mode, allowing us to talk to the physical disks.

  • Win 8/8.1/2012, though we have a port for Win 7/2008R2 also.
