NullReferenceException installing VSIX updates RRS feed

  • Trying to install extension updates to my Visual Studio Community 2015, I get this error:

The same goes for the update of the Github extension. Any clues?

  • Since those extensions belong to Visual Studio and are installed in some subfolder of C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions (that is, they are not user-extensions installed at C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\Extensions), you can try the Repair option of Visual Studio.

If that fails, you can try to uninstall them, either with the VS installer or deleting its folder (make a backup first) and then reinstall or repair Visual Studio.

If that fails, uninstall them as in the previous step but install them from the Extensions and Updates dialog, searching for "Developer Analytics Tools" and "GitHub Extension for Visual Studio" etc.
