Schedule Netmon Run Times RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there anyway to run either netmon 3.3 or 3.4 at a specified time in the future?

  • There are two possible solutions for this.

    1.  You could use the NMCap and the /startwhen parameter to start capturing at a specific time.  For instance:

    nmcap /startwhen /Time 10:30:00 AM 9/10/2005 /network * /capture /file test.cap

    2.  You can also use the schedule service (the AT command) to start a capture.  The trick here is to make sure the credentials have the appropriate rights to load the parsers, and capture engine.  If you are not using a filter, you don't have to worry about the parsers.  And if the credentials default to the admin you don't have to capture engine access.  An alternate account would have to be part of the Netmon Users Group.  And for access to the parsers, it's usually best to just log on as that user and verify you can run NMCap.

    Thanks,

    Paul
