Powerpivot - Use single account to access database RRS feed

  • Question

  • HI

We have a PowerPivot based on a reporting database. The database refreshes every day. We have a lot of powerpivot users but we do not want to give them access on database as there are a lot of other things which are confidential.

How we can set up the power pivot so it use one generic account to connect with database without giving password to users.

    Regards

  • Dear Grahan,

Which is the Database. There can be Two types of databases of concern Here

    1. One Type of Database Where you can manage by Creating Users and Giving Rights for those Specific users to Access only those Particular Tables which might Solve your Problems. So that there is no harm in even giving him the Password for that Particular user as that User is restricted to what he is supposed to have access to.

    2. Database Like MS Access, where you cant Creayte Users, In this Case What You Can do is, Create the List of Queries which will return the Results what are needed for that Particular User. Then Using PowerPivot, You Can Import those Queries. Even the Queries Will Import the Data.
