Recording actions and gestures sing Kinect v2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

I brought Kinect V2 for recording the different gestures and actions. I am very new to all the SDK stuff.I downloaded the Kinect SDK from "http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=44561".  Can you please guide me how can I record RGB, Depth, and skeleton together of different actions and gestures for my project?

    Thank you

  • Hi,

Have a look to Visual Gesture Builder (an app installed with the SDK). There is also a video tutorial:

If you want to record "video streams" for another purpose (e.g. video files), you will have to write your own code capturing data from the sensor. You can find some info in this post.

  • Hello,

yes, I checked the video gesture builder, but I want to record a synchronized video streams of skeleton, RGB and depth.

Is there any sample code available for V2?

  • Besides Kinect Studio <strike>(which does not record RGB)</strike>, there is no other tool.

As far as I know, there is no code sample available since some people have asked for similar things and I don't remember any was provided.

Just as a hint for making your own app, you could start looking at ColorBasics, DepthBasics and BodyBasics demos (they capture and show the three sources you are interested in and are relatively simple apps). Then you could "merge" the three of them and use media library to generate a video file.

EDIT: As said below, KS does record video RGB. I struck it to avoid "misinformation". Thanks for the correction Carmine!

  • Kinect Studio does record the color stream, you just need to enable it (click on the eye icon, if that is not visible, be sure to click all streams are visible button in the UI). Keep in mind, recording color is going to drastically increase the size of the recorded videos so be sure you have lots of storage and a very performance system bus.
