WINDOWS PHONE 8 SDK ON WINDOWS 7 ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

I would like to enter in to Windows PHone Development space. As a first step I bought a Nokia Lumia 920 to understand it from and end user perspective. And then I tried to dowload the SDK and the installer says I need Windows 8 64bit edition. I only have a 32 bit Windows 7 PC which I just bought couple years back. Is there any alternative for me to practice Windows 8 phone development ? Kndly advice.

    Regards

  • Install a Virtual Machine emulator like VMWare or Virtual PC, and then install Windows 8 along with all the SDK tools into that. That's what I have - my host is Windows 7, and I have a VMWare Player instance with Windows 8 inside of it, with Visual Studio 2012, etc and the Windows Phone 8 SDK.

  • The windows phone 7 sdk can be installed on windows 7.  You can create windows phone 7 apps which will work on the windows phone 8 but you will need the windows phone sdk to unlock the phone to deploy an app to it for debugging.

Not really: the poster said he uses VMWare => "That's what I have - my host is Windows 7, and I have a VMWare Player instance with Windows 8 inside of it".

But you're also right: it's not possible to run the emulator with Virtual PC.
