What to expect when upgrading DirSync to Azure AD Connect (downtime and inaccessible functionality).

  • We learned recently that as of April 13th 2017, support will end for Windows Azure Active Directory Sync (“DirSync”) and Microsoft Azure Active Directory Sync (“Azure AD Sync”). We have since decided to transition to Azure AD connect  using the in-place upgrade option that was suggested. I am curious to know what's to be expected while performing this upgrade. For instance, is there any functionality that will be lost during the upgrade, like the ability for users to connect to AD etc.

  • During the transition itself you should not experience any downtime for your users. If you rely on password sync, then new passwords are not synchronized during the upgrade but Connect will synchronize these when it is up and running again.

It should hopefully be an easy upgrade.
