Error 1 The custom tool 'MSLinqToSQLGenerator' failed.  Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

In the Tools - Options - Database Tools - O/R Designer dialog there is a message "An Error occure loading this property page"
    Repaired the install... didn't work
Removed and then Re-installed the Program... didn't work
Tried creating a new website from scratch... still no O/R Designer surface.

This occured just after adding a table to an existing dbml O/R surface, then referencing it via a LINQDatasource in a DropDownList (with selectedValue) in the InsertItemTemplate in a ListView control. All in 3.5 Framework.

Haven't installed any new software or updates lately.

    Anybody got clues,
    Bill

I finally just uninstalled VWD. Cleaned out the lingering registry entries and re-installed. Works ok now.

I had the same problem with my visual studio 2008 professional edition.

I found a very easy way to solve it...

I created a new windows administrator user account and opened visual studio in the new account. It worked as a piece of cake.

I then deleted my previous account and recreate it. I then logged into my previous account and the problem has just disappeared...
