Saving "hidden" data in MSProject with Add-In RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
for my MSProject-AddIn I have to save some data in a MSProject-File.
So when the user opens the file again my AddIn can retrieve this data.
The data is a string with about 1000 characters.
    Anyone an idea?
    Greetings,
    Dominic

  • Hi,

Is it an existing file or one used for the occasion only?

  • Hi,

at the beginning it doesn't exist.

    1. user opens a new file.

    2. user load some information from the internet in his file (with my plugin).

    3. user plays around with the data - delete, modify some stuff (but, all the original data has to be saved in the background).

    4. user saves the file - my plugin has to save the original data as well (XML-Data with more than 1000 characters per Task)

    5. and opens it the next day again without internet (and it still has to be possible to get the original data when you use my plugin).

    Greetings

  • Hi,

I would try activeproject.projectsummarytask.notes to store the text.

I just tried with a 1000 chars string and didn't get ejected :-)

  • Hi, I thought about projectsummarytask.notes as well. But there is a bug in Project 2007 and 2010 that you get an annoying message when you open a file with more than 400 characters stored into this field.

    But, thank you very much!

    Maybe anything else?

  • Hi,

Use tasks(1) then. I tried saving and reopening and no problem.

    Greetings,

I guess you are right. That will be the best solution.

I will write some human readable notification, that nobody deletes the information in this note and it should be fine.

But if anybody has some other idea: just let me know.

    Greetings
