Create Exchange transport agent for antivirus scanning, anti-spamming and content filtering functionalities RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

I want to create Exchange transport agent for antivirus scanning, anti-spamming and content filtering functionalities. The target platform is Exchange 2007/2010.
I have few questions regarding the same-

    (1)    Should I create separate agents with only one functionality or a single agent with all these functionalities?

    (2)    There are three types of transport agents (SmtpReceiveAgent, RoutingAgent and deliveryAgent) and each defines a separate set of events. What type of transport agent and the event supported by the agent is recommend for implementing each of these functionalities?

Any help will be much appreciated.

  • I would suggest you start with the Antivirus sample transport agent http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb204055(v=EXCHG.140).aspx which gives an example of the best events to use and method of getting and modifying a message. The only other event you might want to look at for AntiSpam is OnConnect if you wanted to do some blocking at the IPAddress level etc.

    Cheers
