SMTP X-Header for alternate destination of NDR? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm generating emails programatically from a windows service, with a source email address of a service account within the organisation.
    If an NDR is generated by the recipient's mail system, my windows service is parsing the details from the NDR and logging that that particular mail bounced back.

    This much works so far.

    There is now a problem because we wish to send the emails from noreply@ourdomain.com
    Sending is fine, but if an NDR is generated it'll be sent back to noreply@ourdomain.com, which doesn't exist, and so we'll never see the NDR to parse it.
    Is there any exchange header I can set/add to tell exchange that NDRs should be routed to a separate address (i.e. the service account address) and not the FROM address?

    I was hoping for something like;
    X-MS-Exchange-NDR-Send-To: myserviceaccount@ourdomain.com

  • I couldn't find a solution to this in the end so have abandoned this. If anyone does have any ideas though let me know :)
