VSTO VB: Fastest way to search in Excel? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I would like to ask a question with VSTO Excel programming.

    What is the quickest method to search in a very large Excel table using VB programming? For example, if there is a column “social security number of people in the city”, which might contain tens of thousands of items and all are on the first row, which is the quickest way to find a particular ID in the column?

    In Excel, there are at least three methods can use:

    1. Lookup()
    2. Match()
    3. Find()

    And all of these can called as functions in VBA. However, if the operation is really really frequent, I would like to know from Microsoft which one is the fastest among all of them? Or is there a faster way beyond them since in VSTO I have access to the .NET framework which is not accessible in simple VBA programming?

    Hope someone could help.
