we couldnt get your developer license for windows 8.1 error 0x8024500C RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello! I have been trying for quite sometime, browsing through different forums (including this one) regarding  the given error. I have a Visual Studio 2015 Professional subscription (on MSDN) and want to develop a Windows 8.1 application.

    The pop-up says:

We couldn't get your developer license for windows 8.1. Error 0x8024500C

I am working on a Windows 8.1 machine, and upgrading to Win 10 is not a solution for me.

However after getting the above error, I have tried acquiring the developer license through the following ways:

    1. Running as admin in Visual Studio and trying to acquire it, no luck.

    2. Running Windows PowerShell as admin and running cmdlet Show-WindowsDeveloperLicenseRegistration, no luck.

    3. Windows Firewall in not enabled, so not progress towards that approach.

    4. Fiddled a bit with UAC, toggling different notifications settings, still no luck.

    5. Tried installing on a different PC with Windows 8.1, running on an open network. No luck.

    6. I found a hotfix for this online, but my system (after downloading) says it is not applicable for this system.

Would greatly appreciate your help as this issue has been delaying deploying my application since a week.

    Thanks a ton!

  • Hi Anwesha,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

How about your network environment? The developer license failed to acquire often caused by the bad or limited internet network.

If you used the same subscription account to get the developer license on your computer and another computer that you mentioned, please have a try with creating a new common Microsoft account and use it to activate the developer license, it will exclude the possibility of the sign in account.

According to the error message, I found some other solutions as below:

    1. Please disable any anti-virus software on your computer

    2. Check the time on your computer

    3. Make sure Windows update already up-to-date

    4. Create a new temporary administrator account for your computer and login with the new account, then try it again

Since our forum is to discuss the VS setup and installation, please check here: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/8953f46b-6309-4d9f-ad2c-f9f56363ad17/we-couldnt-get-your-developer-license-for-windows-81-error-0xc03f1014?forum=toolsforwinapps and this developer license isn’t something we can diagnose and fix and you should think about open a support case for it, sorry for this inconvenient and thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Sara
