microsoft sql server 2005 migration RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi.

We are preparing to migrate Domain Controler from Windows server 2003 to 2019 with installed ms sql 2005 on it. Does MS SQL 2005 could be installed on Windows server 2019, and how it works with 2016 Domain Function Level ?

  • SQL Server 2005 is out of support since a long time, it's also not supported on Windows Server 2019 and it' not supported to install SQL Server on a domain controller, independent of the versions of Windows or SQL Server.

MS Support: You may encounter problems when installing SQL Server on a domain controller

  • SQL 2005 Supports only on Windows 2008 and 2008R2. .Later versions of windows  like WS 2012,2012R2,2016 and 2019 ..SQL 2005 wont support.

and Extended support for SQL Server 2005 also ended on April 12, 2016. Microsoft will no longer release any security updates for any version of SQL Server 2005.
