What's the best way to make a single file installer? RRS feed

  • Question

  • For lack of a better method, my approach to making a single file installer for a Windows client app is to develop and test the app within VS 2008, create and build a setup project, creating both a .msi file and a setup.exe file, zip those two files together, and then use WinRAR to add an SFX module. This has worked fine in the past, but when I go through those steps on my new Windows 7 PC and copy the single file installer to a Windows XP PC, the installer fails, saying the .msi file is missing or not accessible. Where have I made a wrong turn?
