VS2013 where is "ado.net entity data model" template?? RRS feed

  • Question

  • on a machine already imaged with VS2010 AND VS2012, I've installed VS2013 PRO and EF 6.0.2 Nuget

Initially the install did not offer the option of selecting the Microsoft Web Developer Tools or Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools

PROGRAMS AND FEATURES says i have the data tools yet I do not have any EF designer support in VS2013 or the ADO.net Entity template (*.edmx).

What am I missing cause this post says all tools are "out of the box"?

    Thank Kevin

  • Hello,

    >> I've installed VS2013 PRO and EF 6.0.2 Nuget

This is just warm up. After you have done what the link said, then

Right Click Project -> Add New Item ->Click Data section -> Double click ADO.NET Entity Data Model -> Choose One Connection Or Create a new connection -> Choose tables, views and store procedure -> Click Finish.

For details regarding How to: Create a New .edmx File (Entity Data Model Tools):

It is a free tool: LICEcap

    >>The tooling is simply missing

From the copy info, it shows that the SQL Server Data Tools   12.0.30919.1 has already been installed.

Have a try to repair the VS or reinstall it and when reinstalling it, select all the checkbox, for details, check the link below:

  • Same thing happened to me with VS2013 Update 2. Am uninstalling/reinstalling now hoping for some resolution. This takes SO INCREDIBLY LONG the uninstall/reinstall time is a bug in itself!@$#$Q#

  • Hi Dave,

Did you get a positive result in reinstalling for missing ADO.NET templates?

I only have xml-file, XML Schema and XSLT File - noting else under New Item/Data.

And I am of course blown away for this halt in my work....

Anyone else? Reinstall seems like overkill - I also get this same issue on 2 clients...

    Thanks...

    Regards, Kato.

  • Yes, but only after I reinstalled VS.

  • I was served a real walk on this issue - in the end it seems to be crucial where, in your project your "cursor" is active, in the solution explorer, when you activate Add...bye right-clicking.

But it seems more odd to - running Nuget Manager and updating my Entity Framework seemed to move the accessibility to ADO.NET back to right-clicking the actual project for Add...- and not bye right-clicking app-Data in my WCF project.

A real walk....and dead stupid walk - that has solved this issue - and of course gave me a new one to solve in another part of this forum!

Bring it on - As it goes....

    Regards, Kato.
