Save route returned from DirectionsManager RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Let's say I have two way points and I am creating a driving route. I might have 1 route, 1 routeLeg and several subLegs. I want to save route(for an example in a database) and later I want return the route from the database and mark it on the map. I know it is possible because in bing maps you can email the route. I just can't find out how to do this using Bing Maps Ajax control.

    Appreciate your help.

    Happy Coding.

    Regards,

    Jaliya

  • Saving a routing in a database is against the terms of use for Bing Maps. The only data allowed to be saved outside of the Bing Maps control is geocode coordinates. Instead of saving the route you can save the way points and let the map regenerate the route on demand. Note that if you are using the directions module or using the REST services with a session key these additional route requests get marked as non-billable in the usage reports so there is no additional cost in doing this.

  • Only the waypoints used to generate the route. If the route is dragged then there will be additional waypoints used by the route which you can get from the directions manager.

  • Hi Richard,

Thank you so much for the prompt response. When you mean saving the way points, I will have to save not only just two way points, but all the subLegs right? Because in the map we can drag and modify the route, so there will be many subLegs. Waiting for your response.

    Happy Coding.
