SharePoint 2010 foundation FrontEnd Load Balancing RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am planning the availability of our SharePoint PROD deployment. I realized WSS4 has "Within Farm" Round-robin loading balancing (NLB) services. We currently have Kamp load balancer implemented for Exchange 2010 in our environment and there is room for putting our PROD FrontEnd into this equation.

I can't find too much details about how to configure FE load balancing with Hardware Appliance from Microsoft Technet. I wonder if anyone has experience on this topic. Should I use the buit-in NLB or Kamp ?

    Thanks.

  • For WFE load balancing, you can either use Windows NLB, or a hardware load balancer.  The built-in load balancing for SharePoint is only used for service applications and not for end user requests to SharePoint sites.
