Clone a dynamic disk and let it online on same machine. (keep origin disk online) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I have a disk with one partition (D:), it is a dynamic disk.

I have another same size new disk, I clone D: disk to new disk sector by sector, and I manual change serial number (unique id) of new disk.

Then it always shows "invalid" if I try to online it. But if I offline origin D: disk or remove it, then new disk can online and data is correct exist.

I think cloned dynamic disk have something conflict with origin disk. Does any other thing need to be modified on new disk?

I want to let old/new disk both online. I read MBR and LDM private header, but still have no idea.

    Please help me, thanks.

  • Explain  "(unique id) of new disk". Same or different than original disk?

  • I don't know why. To get you going, delete new disc and try to clone/ mirror it again.
