Download and installed framework 4 succesfully but cant get the program I want to work RRS feed

  • Question

well the reason I downloaded and installed framework 4 was to be able to use  the FMRTE which is a save game editor for football manager 2011. Basically I install the framework 4 and it says successful then when I open the program FMRTE it says, need framewrok 4. I downloaded the framework 4 from the microsoft site and Ive tried the client., full, stand alone, no anti virus, even did the collect.exe, even used the clean up tool for framework and then reinstalled and it did succesfully but I still cant get the program to work. The program seems to be fine since alot of people have been using it from the football manager 2011 community. I feel like something is blocking something coz its always like this when Im trying to install something complicated. I have a vista home 32.

Also when I tried doing the windows update framework 3.5 service pack 1.. it always goes on error. WindowsUpdate_00000490" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

  • What Service Pack level for Vista? If you don't have it, you need Service Pack 2 installed.

If you have captured your install logs with Collect.exe, upload vslogs.cab to a public site, like SkyDrive, and post the link here.

Verify the installed .NET 4 with this:

Have you contacted the publisher of Football Manager 2011/FMRTE about your problem?

As far as .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is concerned, Vista installs .NET Framework 2.0/3.0 as part of the OS, so you should first make sure those are both fully enabled. To do so:

Control Panel->Programs and Features->Turn Windows features on and off...

In the features list, fid all entries that begin "Microsoft .NET Framework...", expand the nodes and check all subfeatures.

    Then, use this cumulative update:

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe

Note: any install attempt should be preceeded by the following:

    Clean out your %temp% directory

    Disable your AV software

    Run the installer "As Administrator".

  • Until you get the SP's installed for Vista, you can't even get security updates.

Although not using the cheat may seem to solve the problem, you're just asking for trouble, especially if you expose your computer on the web.

If you do decide to address your Vista update issues, here is the place to get the best advice:
