Deploy ASP.Net/SQL Server Solution to Windows Server RRS feed

    Hello,

Please advise if my understanding is correct:

We plan to develop an ASP.Net web application/OLAP DB with Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate, SQL Server 2012 Enterprise and SSDT.

Our DEV machine has all required software (above).

Our TEST server has Windows Server 2008 R2 but no SQL Server instance.

Our PROD server has Windows Server 2012 but no SQL Server instance.

Can you please advise what is required for a deployment to both TEST and PROD?

Will we require a new full SQL Server installation on both machines?

Is it possible to use a Hyper-V Virtual Machine on both TEST and PROD environments to replicate our DEV environment? I have read that Windows 7 is not suitable for a production environment.

With our current situation, what would be our best method?

    Appreciate in advance.

    Darren

You will need sql server instances SOMEWHERE; it doesn't have to be located on the same machine.

Then you'll migrate your database from DEV, to TEST, and eventually to PROD.

    Hi,

If we plan to use a data mart/OLAP cubes & data mining, do we require a full SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Installation on our Dev machine also as I do not believe the developer version supports these features

If you need data mart/OLAP cubes&data mining, it's recommended to use SQL Server 2012 Enterprise version on your Dev machine.

    Regards

    Thanks,

Are you saying we could use our SQL Server 2012 Enterprise version for Dev, Test and Prod?

We have a server rack running Windows Server 2012, which will be used for our DB/Web Server.

Would it be best to install SQL Server on Windows Server and then set up a Dev, Test and Prod environment? Is this even possible?

No. I'm saying you don't have to install sql server on the same machine that hosts your website. It can be a different server.

Our SQL Server 2012 Enterprise will be installed on our Windows Server 2012 Prod environment which shall also host our web application.

For our Dev environment we have Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate. If we plan to use a data mart/OLAP cubes & data mining, do we require a full SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Installation on our Dev machine also as I do not believe the developer version supports these features.
