How can I register an aspnet ODBC database? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to put together a membership application using Visual Studio 2010.

Because of limitations imposed by my web hosting company, I cannot use SQL Server; so the aspnet_regsql utility won't work for me. They provide PHP and MYSQL, but because learning them would take too long, they are out of the question at this juncture.

The only other database available to me is MS Access (2003). Please direct me to a similar utility for creating an ODBC data store with Access as its foundati0on.

  • As far as I remember, the default ASP.NET application project uses a mdb file in App_Data folder to store member data. Why don't you just create a new project and copy files / settings from there?

Also note that Windows won't have 64-bit JET engine. Unless they have Access 2007+ installed on the server (then you can use ACE instead), you won't be able to use MDB too unless you can tell the web hosting company to change your application pool to run in 32-bit mode.
