Why can't I create a smart device project? RRS feed

  • Hi Everyone,

    I'm running Visual Studio 2005 Professional Version and am having a serious problem creating a new Smart Device project in either win32 or MFC. I have installed Windows Mobile SDK 6 & 6.5.

    On two seperate installations, one with SP1 and one without, I get the following error when I try to create a new Smart Device application from template:

    Object reference not set to an instance of an object ... and a 'project creation failed' message in the status bar.

    Why? How could I trace this problem? Is there any log to trace the problem?

  • I have installed Visual Studio 2005 SP1, then I can create smart project device.

    So, I think it is the fix way.

    It seems it is a bug in VS 2005. May be installing latest service pack could address the problem. Afte googling, The following steps help me to solve the problem

    1. Close Visual Studio 2005
    2. Open Registry Editor. Start ->Run->Type RegEdit.exe
    3. Find the following registry entry:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\PreApproved
    4. Add a new entry and name it
      {D245F352-3F45-4516-B1E6-04608DA126CC}
    5. Close RegEdit
    6. Start Visual Studio 2005
    7. Try and create a Smart Device C++ project

  • Hi Walter,

    Please follow the steps below:

    1. Open the command prompt and go to the folder
      C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8.0\Common7\IDE
    2. type devenv /resetskippkgs
    3. close the Visual Studio Window that will open after completion of previous command.
    4. type devenv /setup
    5. After the execution of previous command is complete open Visual Studio
