Retrieve code from a vb project coded in 2005 version RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a software coded using visual basic 2005. I don't have the 2005 version now and i need to edit that software. Is there any way to retrieve the code using vb2008 or vb2010? If not from where can i download the 2005 version? I need to do it at the earliest. Please help me.

    If you open older visual studio project in newer one, it will convert and upgrade your project files to comply with new version.

    sometimes it may convert partially but read logs and take care of errors manually. Most of the times it goes fine.

    Dont forget to have backup copy of original source.

    Thanks

  • Thank you Omie for the reply. But i got an error message that the project was not created using visual basic studio tools and hence it can not be opened.

    Is it due to some other reason other than the version compatibility?

  • Can you show the exact error message, all versions from 2005 to 2008 are normally to use without any issue in a newer version

    But if it does not go in 2005, it will as well not go in 2008 and 2010.

  • Hi Nisanth,

    Welcome to MSDN forums!

    “If not from where can i download the 2005 version? I need to do it at the earliest. Please help me.”

    ->
    The Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition is not available anymore. The higher version Visual Basic 2008/2010 Express Edition is recommended.

    You can target to Framework 2.0 in Visual Basic 2008/2010 Express, then you work fine like in Visual Basic 2005 Express.

    By the way, you can get some clues about VB 2005 Express Download from this case http://forums.xna.com/forums/t/32671.aspx.
    And maybe get VB 2005 Express Download links available in
    this blog post.
