SQL Failover Cluster on Azure VM RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have following steps from the following blog and created a SQL Fail over Cluster (I'm using iSCSI instead of data keeper)

    http://clusteringformeremortals.com/2015/01/01/step-by-step-how-to-configure-a-sql-server-failover-cluster-instance-fci-in-microsoft-azure-iaas-sqlserver-azure-sanless/

Any external machines for example SharePoint are not able to connect to the SQL cluster (note SQL 2012 Standard edition).

I'm using Azure standard D3 machines.

    Cluster IP Address: 10.0.0.25

    SQL Virtual IP : 10.0.0.12

    Azure Load Balancer IP: 10.0.0.20

SQL DB VIP name : SQLDB

Client Access point name : F1SQL

    Any help appreciated!

    Regards,

    Harish Kumar

  • Hi Harish,

Please note that SQL Failover Clusters are not officially supported by Microsoft in Azure VMs yet. We will support SQL Failover Clusters natively on top of Azure Files (SMB 3.0) next month.

Would you be able to provide more details as to how you set up the failover cluster using iSCSI?

In the meantime, check the following:

    • The clustering solution must reply back on the load balancer Probe port to acknowledge the VM that hosts the primary replica
    • Make sure to enable DirectServerReturn on the load balanced endpoints used by the VMs

For additional ideas, please refer to this troubleshooting tutorial: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn495646.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
