How to I use a custom attachment previewer in Outlook (2013)? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

I've written a custom document previewer as per the instructions at

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/cc144143(v=vs.85).aspx.

The previewer works fine in Windows Explorer, but I'd like to configure Outlook so that attachments of the appropriate type can be previewed. However, Outlook doesn't honour my previewer - The reading pane says "This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it". If I navigate to the "Trust Center" and look at the list of installed previewers, mine is absent. However, if I open Outlook's file open dialog to attach a file I can preview my documents in that dialog.

How do I / Is it possible to , add a custom attachment previewer to Outlook?

    Thanks,

    John.
