Start workflow on multiple items RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I want to edit multiple items on a Sharepoint list with a workflow. But when i select more then one item the workflow button is greyed out.

Is there any way to solve this?

  • You could add a step at the start of the workflow that triggers it upon a field in the list being changed, I'd use a choice field.  Using datasheet view and pre-determined views, you can cut /paste values for bulk items, which upon saving, would then kick off the workflow.

  • HI,

Try editing them with a powershell script so that the workflow will initiate each time you edit one.

  • The workflows must be started manualy. So that is no solution for me.

  • Realizing this is an old thread, but I did something similar by adding a "dummy" field to the list, then setting up the workflow to run when an item is changed.  I then loaded the SharePoint list in Microsoft Access and ran an update query to put a value in the "dummy" field, which initiates the workflow on all the changed items.

I had to do this to move blog posts from an old system to SharePoint 2013.
